Like a jazz musician who practices the art of improvisation, Lenny Gonzalez has been honing a spontaneous approach to portraiture for two decades. “I use what’s at hand,” Lenny says. “Preparation is necessary, but I like to find inspiration in the moment.”  While working for clients like eBay, Glassdoor and Stanford Medicine, he maintains a steady involvement in the local creative music scene by photographing its players and attending as many performances as humanly possible. A selection of these photographs can be seen in SFMOMA’s blog, Open Space. He lives in Alameda with his wife Suzy Clement and their kids, Mielle and Lucien.
